About Van Der Merwe
Water Infrastructure

Johan van Der Merwe
Founder & CEO
Started with a single farm tank. Now building water security for a nation.
Johan van Der Merwe grew up on a farm in the Northern Cape where water scarcity was a daily reality. Watching his family struggle with unreliable municipal supply during drought years planted a seed that would shape his entire career.
After completing his studies in civil and structural engineering, Johan returned to the Northern Cape with a mission: to give South African farms, municipalities, and communities the water storage infrastructure they deserved. He installed his first galvanized steel tank in 2005 — a 50,000 L flat-sheet bolted unit for a livestock farm outside Upington.
Two decades later, Van Der Merwe Water Infrastructure Pty Ltd has grown into one of South Africa's most trusted tank manufacturers and installers, with completed projects in all 9 provinces and a team that understands the unique demands of South African terrain, climate, and regulation.
Johan remains hands-on in every major project, personally overseeing quality control and site assessments for large municipal and industrial installations.

What drives us every day.
Quality Without Compromise
Every panel, bolt, and fitting is inspected before leaving our facility. We build tanks that outlast the warranty by decades.
Community First
From rural villages in Limpopo to townships in the Eastern Cape — water security is a human right, not a luxury.
Engineering Precision
SANS 10329 and SANS 10160 compliance is our baseline. Our structural designs account for SA seismic zones and wind loads.
Built for Remote Access
Modular flat-pack design means our tanks reach any site — gravel roads, dry riverbeds, or high-altitude locations.
Ready to work with us?
